PHOTOGRAPHY is the world’s greatest hobby. It is difficult to imagine a family where at least one member does not own a camera, or a member has not appeared in a photograph. Even with the popularity of the video camera, nothing can compare to looking at a photograph, which has captured a moment forever.[accordion]

Look around you. What do you see? You see pictures, photographs; graphically illustrated images everywhere. We are inundated with photographs every day; pictures of war and famine, victory and defeat, of famous and infamous people; ideal travel destinations and beautiful homes or hotels, calendars with gorgeous models or beautiful sceneries. Hoardings and poster advertisements of products we enticed to buy are everywhere around us.
Photographs bring far away from people and places into our living rooms and time past into the present. We all have albums of pictures of loved ones and ourselves, of the present day, or when we were younger. They are our memories made real — also photographs of important moments, which are precious only to us.
People became interested in photography for all kinds of reasons. Some use a camera to complement another hobby or involvement. Others like to document significant events in their life, such as the birth of a child, holidays and family gatherings. Then there are those individuals who take pictures purely as a means of expressing their creativity and personal vision of the world, like how an artist paint or an architect design beautiful buildings. Others see it as a means of earning an income, getting into photography as a part-time or full-time profession.
But of the countless photographs our eyes pass over, only a small number catch our attention and stick in our memories. Just what is it that separates those images from the rest?
While great photographs come in many different forms, they all have one thing in common: each conveys a strong feeling, be it joy, sadness, compassion, disgust, or the indescribable but straightforward pleasure of looking at something that our eyes and brains find appealing. The photographer communicated this feeling by successfully combining his/her sensibilities, through the eyes, with a knowledge of the subject he/she is about to capture in the camera. The photographer looks, thinks, chooses the right equipment and settings, and then presses the shutter button.
It was George Eastman, the founder of Kodak, who first made cameras at prices that increasing numbers of people could afford. The transition in terms of technology from those early days simple box Brownies to today’s most sophisticated digital cameras is phenomenal.
Yet even with these advances, the single most crucial factor behind a great picture is YOU, the photographer. With a guided knowledge of the functional principles of photography, ANYONE can take full advantage of all that the art of photography has to offer.
The tools that are available to photography today have changed drastically from those used a few years ago. Labour saving camera systems such as Auto-Focus, 3-D Metering and advances in digital technology has removed much of the mystic from the picture taker’s Art. Constant innovations in Digital Photography means that effects that once took hours to perform in the darkroom can now be achieved with a click of a computer’s mouse.
Although photographers need to understand and exploit such technologies, we must not forget that such devices are only tools. Without the skills and artistry to ‘see’ the picture in the first place, such electronic marvels are worthless. IT IS THE PERSON BEHIND THE CAMERA, WHO PRIMARILY AND FINALLY PRODUCES THAT BEAUTIFUL PICTURE.
To promote PHOTOGRAPHY in GOA, STENODAC launched the “STENODAC ACADEMY OF PHOTOGRAPHY AND DIGITAL IMAGING” in May 2001. Goa’s premier professional training PHOTOGRAPHY ACADEMY has two Centers, at PANJIM and MARGAO.
Multi-hundreds have completed our popular Course in “Creative Photography” in the last 21 years. This course is for beginners, amateurs, photo enthusiasts, aspiring professionals and all those who want to learn and enjoy the beautiful ART OF PHOTOGRAPHY. The Course is open to all; age is no barrier whatsoever. Young girls and boys, homemakers and people in business, working persons and aspiring professionals have undergone this popular Course. Most of them are enthusiastically taking great pictures which they are proud of and are the admiration of others. Our ex-students have won competitions and have had their work featured in newspapers and magazines. Many are gone into full-time professional photography and are earning handsomely.
You don’t have to be a professional to make good photographs, but you do have to spend a lot of time with your camera. We hope you will take full benefit of our Course to learn simple techniques, and then go and take and make lots of pictures, quality pictures, great pictures, WOW pictures! This is, after all, the fun part. And that is YOUR ultimate goal! Trust us to help you fulfil your vision.
In your Course, you will explore and learn the elements of compositions, visualisations, lighting, and exposure that go into the thinking part of image-making, and you will use cameras, lenses and various other types of equipment, which are your tools.
You will then look at all sorts of situations with a new eye, a ‘Creative Eye’; from varied landscapes to travel scenes, from events and family occasions, portraits and people, fashion photography to advertising, etc. You will get tips and tricks of the trade from your professional trainers. You will also get to understand the world of Digital Imagery, where pictures can be enhanced, transformed, altered, made-over, restored, etc.
STENODAC ACADEMY is fully equipped with ALL types of professional equipment including a range of the latest sophisticated Lighting Systems, and a comprehensive range of imported photographic equipment including the most recent Compacts to Digital SLR Cameras from brands like Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, and others, for students’ practical use. Students are not expected to bring any equipment to the Course. High-end Digital Computers are also part of the Academy’s equip-base.
Photography is best learned by practice by getting out into the world and making photographs. However, learning by trial error experimentation can be quite frustrating. You will end up taking an exasperating and challenging learning curve. From teaching photography classes and workshops over the last 21years, I see firsthand the creative and technical struggles photographers have in making stunning images. But when you have proper guidance, it’s not so hard. Sometimes all it takes is a little real guidance from someone who understands the creative process. Formal training will help you to grasp the intricacies and nuances of Photography and easily. The simple step-by-step instruction in our Course, therefore, will give you all the direction and guidance you need. In no time at all, you will be hurdling challenges that have been known to stump many photographers. Whether you want to enjoy your photographic hobby further or want to become a full-time professional, OUR DETAILED COURSE WILL SERVE AS A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR YOU.
One salient feature of our Course is that you learn your photography FOR YOURSELF. We do not train you to become another ‘mass-factory-produced photographer’. We believe in your individuality and your freedom to do what pleases you. We do not compare your work or expect you to compete with others who are undergoing the Course with you. You learn whatever is in your interest and you practice those areas which are fascinating to you. Besides covering every aspect of our training during the Course, you can rest assured that we will guide you in the direction you wish to take and the specific reason you have enrolled for the Course. You will learn how to try out different photographic skills and how to apply them in varied situations; even with your regular mobile phone camera, primary compact cameras and right up to the most sophisticated ones too. The batches are small for smooth interaction and accessibility to your Trainer.
Stenodac’s Course is classified as BEGINNERS to INTERMEDIATE level with ADVANCED topics included. This means that the ACADEMY OFFERS MUCH MORE than merely FUNDAMENTAL classes!
